Tell us a little bit about your business The Gypsy and The Officer…

The Gypsy and The Officer is a wholesale and retail fashion and accessories label. We wholesale clothing, bags and jewellery, own several retail pop up shops as well as our own online store!

If you could describe The Gypsy and The Officer in three words, what would they be?

Bohemian, eclectic and exquisite.

Describe a highlight for you during your career…

There is no stand out highlight as every day we are faced with new achievements. Every day something new happens. Just when you think you have solved the world, it all gets turned upside down and you have to start a new challenge. That is what genuinely keeps me going so, every day has its own highlight.

What do you find most challenging about running your own business?

I think having to juggle everything. There are so many great parts of running a business but at the end of the day, you are the person who holds all of the responsibility. Taking bins out, wrapping and packing orders, juggling balance sheets or getting your creative on designing new collections – you have to do it all!

What is your number one tip for other entrepreneurs setting out in the world of business?

I would say cashflow. It is so important to keep an eye on cashflow and ensure that you build a buffer! That plus remembering that each day you have to show up – just show up and get it done and keep getting it done – even when you feel like giving up – keep going!

How do you spend your spare time?

Spare time – what’s that? No, spare time is very important but really for me it’s just family time with my husband and little boy Archie. We love the beach so summer days are spent camping and any spare time I get, I love to fly home to Scotland to visit my mum, dad and brother.
