When I start chortling about SEO I’m usually met with glazed eyes, yawns and changed subjects.
I get it. SEO can be boring. Strategic. And this huge beast that doesn’t make any sense.

For me, SEO has been a huge game changer in my biz. Not only in time, but also opportunities, client acquisition and overall discoverability. Here’s 6 ways SEO has helped my business. And how it can help yours too.
When you think of SEO, you probably think some weird techy place on the internet for nerds and turtlenecks.
That is only half true *tugs at collar*
It may surprise you to know that SEO can help offer many opportunities outside your website too. For example, I’ve been discovered by brands online. Then, invited to speak at events, as part of courses, on Instagram lives, inside membership doors and even on podcasts.
By increasing your discoverability potential for what you do, this helps establish your authority in your industry. Then? Rockin’ up your opportunities for right fit people.
Backlinks are a killer element to any SEO strategy. As part of that? Many epic businesses are looking to grow theirs. Naturally, they’ll search around for relevant business owners to reference their pieces. Or, create an original piece of content for your website on the condition you link back to theirs.
This has offered many opportunities of connection outside of my circle of peeps. Free, high quality content (like this one) means less time for me. Plus, when I create a piece of content for other websites, this reaches a whole new audience.
Note: I always recommend checking the domain authority of a website before agreeing to a content swap or feature. The higher the domain authority, the more likely Google is to respect your website more. I use Keysearch to check this.

Like many online businesses, mine has had the *phwoooosh!* rockin’ pleasure of reaching places far beyond mine. I’ve worked with killer brands in Macau, Europe, the USA and India. SEO has the potential to open all kinds of sparkly doors, even if you’re tappin’ away on a keyboard in the ‘burbs of Queensland’s Gold Coast. Or, well, anywhere.
It’d be kinda awkward if an SEO course wasn’t SEO optimised, right?
That’s why I’ve created an SEO page for the landing page. Without ads, actively promoting or driving traffic to the sales page… Sales still tick over, from people I’ve never met. I bloody love working with legends all over the damn place. And as a nervy introvert, I don’t head out solo to many IRL networking events (okay, *any*). Especially ones where I won’t know anyone. But the internet – ah! We can all reach that bad boy without three outfit changes, a fist full of business cards or paid parking.
By optimising copy for search engines, local businesses have found me through a simple Google search. Whether it’s my website, interviews with me on other people’s websites or even Google My Business.

When I first started Readcity, I focussed quite a bit on outbound marketing. This is things like cold calls and emails, in-person reach out to businesses and pitching at events. This really wasn’t my style and it was chewing up all my time.
